FAQ’s
What can I expect to get out of therapy?
Clients typically experience an increased sense of empowerment to navigate life’s difficulties. They come away from therapy with skills and tools to actively address concerns in real-time outside of session. They are educated in how the mind works to better understand their own experience and why their difficulties arise. They experience a greater understanding of their own values and what is important. They typically understand how to find and maintain fulfilling relationships and how to invest in the people that are important to them. Finally, they are equipped with the capacity to set their own goals and greater ability to move toward them.
How is therapy different from talking with a friend?
Therapy is specifically designed to promote your personal well-being. Therapists have training in understanding how the brain works, the impact of family dynamics on development, how social and cultural factors affect mental health, and how to create change with therapeutic techniques. Therapy provides objective guidance in a confidential space where you don’t have to worry about the therapist’s emotions as you share your own.
How do I pay for sessions?
- Insurance- currently I take Aetna and Cigna insurance plans, please reach out if you’d like me to check your eligibility.
- Out-of-pocket- I charge $150 per 60 minute session billed the same day as your scheduled appointment. I offer sliding scale pricing based on financial need.
- Out-of-network benefits- I utilize Mentaya, a company that offers out-of-network billing support, making it easy to recoup a significant portion (average 62 percent) of your cost through out-of-network insurance with little to no effort on your end.
How long will therapy last?
The timeline in therapy differs depending on your goals and needs. Some clients find benefit out of a small number of very focused and goal oriented sessions, while others prefer to take more time and explore themselves with breadth and depth. I am happy to work with your preference of treatment time and have seen great results with both approaches.
What is ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)?
ACT therapy focuses on helping you accept your thoughts and feelings instead of trying to fight them. It focuses on mindfulness and living in the present moment, while also helping you identify your core values and commit to taking action towards them. By accepting your emotions rather than trying to control them, ACT can disrupt decades-long patterns of struggle and shift you toward the life you want.
